(Giveaway is over)
Food blogging is a funny thing; or would I say recipe blogging? I guess that ” Food” bloggers more or less blog about food they eat, do restaurant reviews and the like and recipe bloggers create and adapt recipes, test, photograph and publish for all the world to see and hopefully make and enjoy as much as we do. But we all call ourselves food bloggers. I started blogging in 2008 after friend convinced me I needed to start a blog since I loved to bake. I really had no clue what or how to run a blog. I started off on blogger, and knew nothing. I bought a domain name and it sat for a while before I finally started posting. My recipes were solid, my pics were not. But over time I got better. Then came a couple kids and the blog got neglected. A lot. Fast forward to almost 2 years ago when I decided to blog again. Rebrand and rename my blog, get more serious about it, use social media to promote my recipes, and try to make my blog generate a little income even (not my main goal but some extra $$ helps with the food bill so I can keep creating new awesome recipes) Like this one here:
I am mind blown at food/recipe blogging now compared to when I first started. Not only are there WAY more bloggers now, but many if not most are very successful with having turned their blogs into businesses. There are some incredibly talented recipe creators, writers and food photographers now. They are also generating advertising money (Not every blogger’s favorite thing to do, have ads on ones blog but it helps) to working with brands to promote their products, develop recipes for brands, do photography for brands and even be ambassadors for brands. And a lot are now writing cookbooks or have ones published and are working on second books! So awesome The blogging community is really neat too. We are all so supportive of one another, sharing each other’s posts on Facebook or Twitter or Pinterest. Google+ as well ( I still haven’t figured out G+) and I have met some amazing people through food blogging that are all over the country that I probably would have never ever met otherwise. Plus we all make amazing recipes and I have made a ton that other bloggers have created and all I can say is there isn’t enough hours in the day to make and eat everything that everyone makes!!
My first blog was a cupcake blog primarily but I make way more than that. I wish I could live on cupcakes alone!! But alas I can’t. I actually eat super crazy healthy about 80-90% of the time. Somewhat paleo-ish (organic meats, lots of veggies, fruits healthy fats) I don’t restrict all food groups because I love rice, cheese and, well cupcakes. And cake. And cookies. So that is why I decided to blog about healthy eats AND sweet treats. Because I had more to share with you all than just cupcakes.
One of the most fun parts of food blogging, besides taste testing, is utilizing social media. I started up a Facebook page, Twitter, instagram and google + for my blog last year. I have actually been on Pinterest since it started so I don’t count that AS much, but it has BLOWN up the food blog world. So many people get tens of thousands of blog visits a day from Pinterest. Its really amazing. Facebook is also interesting since its visual but not everyone that likes or follows you gets to see what you post. It only shows to a select number of fans. Its beyond frustrating and all bloggers have the same love/hate relationship with it. WE just can’t ever seem to quit Facebook, but we get frustrated when we see ” 100 people saw this” out of 4000 fans. I have to say though, that Instagram is my favorite. I am such a visual person and I love looking at everyone’s pics and sharing pics I take.
I never thought in a million years that my fun with Instagram would have landed me a food blogger dream gig: Ambassador for Cost Plus World Market. I still pinch myself. They loved that I was always posting my finds on my Instagram and I got an amazing email one day from my PR rep asking me if I wanted to be an ambassador. I think I jumped up and down with excitement for two days straight. I have been a fan of the store for as long as I can remember. At least 15 years, maybe more. I would say about 90% of the dishes and props I use in my photos are from the store. I am going to start sharing more about the items I use and link to their locations on the World Market website. I have so many favorite items from the store that its hard to list them all. Plus they change inventory for each season and each season gets better and better. Food blogger heaven.
I couldn’t be more thrilled that I decided to rebrand and dive headfirst back in to blogging. The last year and a half or so has been amazing and I am truly thankful for this amazing opportunity to be able to not only have a job that I love but to be able to work from home and be with my kids. Plus my husband loves getting to be my number one taste tester. I am thankful for the awesome friends I have made through blogging and social media that do things like surprise me with sharing my facebook page on theirs to have their fans like my page to give me a boost to 5k likes ( it blasted well past that) because I had been planning on a fun little giveaway as a thank you once I reached that milestone. (An extra special thank you to Mary fromBarefeet in The Kitchen and Jen from Savory Simple for their generosity. )
I am THRILLED to say that my fave store is donating a $100 gift card to one lucky winner of my giveaway. SWEET, right??
