Afternoon Painting Project for kids

I am a bona fide Pinterest addict and I think its a wonderful place to get ideas for afternoon projects for my kids. I have pinned so many ideas that I will be posting them here as my kids finish them. So many creative ideas to choose from. I think its also a valuable resource for homeschooling parents and teachers – one stop shopping for classroom ideas. Its neat to be a kid these days.
I was flipping through a Michael’s weekly mailer and saw that painting canvasses were buy one get one and knew they would be perfect for an idea I had recently pinned. A painted name or first initial canvas. So cute. Tape out the name or first letter of first name and let the kiddo paint it up. Finger paint, splatter, hand prints you name it.

I taped off the initials with painters tape so they would be easy to remove. I had to do many little strips to fill the letters in since we used big canvasses.

And outside we go. Paint ( kids washable because my kids love to paint everything they can, including themselves), paintbrushes, water ( mostly to play in not wash off brushes) Good times.

My 2 year old was having more fun painting herself than her picture. Can’t really blame her

The 2 year old hasn’t finished hers yet. We sort of ran out of paint ( not naming any names here) but someone wasted it all on her legs, arms, belly, sister…

Finished!  I took the painters tape off and filled in the K with basic white acrylic paint. This is now hanging in her room. Really a neat, relatively inexpensive way to spend an afternoon and my kids had a blast.

  1. I love painter’s tape.. it’s so neat how you can paint walls or a canvas, take off the tape, and get a straight line. This is such a cool idea! It totally beats straight lines :)

  2. Painter’s tape rocks
