Deviled eggs are a very versatile recipe, so many varieties that work for every season. Most often seen around Easter time, they are also great for summertime picnics, snacks, school lunches, appetizers served at football parties and a healthy option at holiday parties.
I can see these spicy southern deviled eggs served at a variety of get togethers. The really are one of the easiest recipes to make, perfect for a last minute recipe to whip up when in a time crunch. And fancy enough to impress anyone at a football or holiday party.
Every now and then I get a craving for deviled eggs so I boil 6-8 and most days I am lazy and just mix the yolk with mustard and cottage cheese and call it good. Salt and pepper too. Other days when I am feeling fancy I will add different items to the yolk mixture.
I love the crunch from the relish and gherkin and the spice from the cayenne in these southern deviled eggs. A delicious and spicy variation.
There are many ways to boil eggs. I prefer the heat in cold salted water with a splash of vinegar, bring to a boil, let boil for one minute then remove from heat and let sit for 12 minutes. Then remove to an ice bath. You can boil the eggs any way you want to get that perfect yolk for deviled eggs.
